Hi Kids!

My name is Dart and I’m a dragonfly. I live in a wonderful place. The lady who lives here calls it the Bullfrog Bog. We’re okay with that and welcome her into our neighborhood. She drives a John Deere Gator and can sit for a long time by our pond. She likes to watch us and we watch her right back. A couple of us have landed on her and for some reason that makes her very happy.

There is plenty of food and places to rest here. I like sitting in the sunshine on a cattail now and then. Branches are good spots too and when it rains, my dragonfly friends and I hide in the tall grasses.

It takes a lot of bugs to feed a dragonfly and I’m glad there are lots of mosquitoes and flies in our neighborhood. The lady who visits us seems glad we are such good hunters.

If you like to watch dragonflies too, you have probably noticed some smaller bugs that look a lot like me. These neighbors are called damselflies. We’re a lot alike, but they are smaller and their bodies are skinnier. My eyes are really big and sometimes dragonfly eyes touch each other. Damselfly eyes never touch.

Sometimes a big medical helicopter flies over our neighborhood. The lady thanks God out loud for man’s ability to copy the way we fly so that helicopter can get help to injured people really fast.

Dragonfly wings are very strong and we have four of them. We were made with the ability to move our front wings independently of our back ones.

The lady who visits, talks to us. We can’t talk back to her, but that doesn’t seem to bother her at all. One day a group of us darted back and forth in her front yard and she seemed to be more delighted than usual to see us. We were hungry and her yard was full of mosquitoes so we gladly took the trip from the pond to her yard. She came outside to watch us and then she thanked God for creating us and for letting her enjoy those moments with us. She loves our Creator and I know she hopes you do too.
